Radiation safety issue to be burning for Armenia population

Public monitoring of ecological hot spots conducted by EcoLur working group showed there is high probability of radiation risks on the sites of open-cast development of gold-polymetallic mines...Uranium reserves in Armenia were investigated in the 50-60’s...Investigation results were declassified only in 2008 when Armenia signed an agreement with Russian State “Rosatom” Corporation on investigation, prospecting and processing of radioactive raw material...More than hundreds of uranium manifestations were detected...[I]n the Getik River basin...where uranium was investigated...Martouni villagers who worked in that expedition assure radiation background is high on the river slope, while the employees of the sanitary inspection say that people living around this territory complain of their ill-health...The same situation is in Syunik...[R]adionuclide poses danger to human health and environment. Investigations show that low radiation may cause genome mutation through the generation, i.e. we speak about the third and fourth generation to suffer from existing radiation.
