Swedish firm TeliaSonera reportedly commits to stop supporting forced & child labour in Uzbek cotton harvest following concerns about profiting from the abuses

The revelation last fall [about TeliaSoneria's] aid [of the Uzbek forced labour programme] brought strong criticism from human rights organizations and politicians...According to Telia...its operator in the country in one way or another contributed to the harvest since 2012...This year it is our ambition to not attend at all, says Michaela Ahlberg, head of the company's ethical rules...Telia has...been criticized...for their actions in Uzbekistan...Telia had distributed 2,000 so-called "sponsored numbers" without subscriptions and bills...[which] critics felt..were...bribery...[Ahlberg calls the subcriptions] unacceptable...and points out that today they are under ten...[Also refers to Vimplecom (part of Telenor)]
