Tanzania: Acacia partners with local groups to improve health services around mining areas

"Improving Health Services Around Gold Mining Areas"

Health services are geared for impressive performances in the mine host areas as development partners pump in more financial assistance to support them. One of such initiatives was demonstrated...when the Bulyanhulu Gold Mines Ltd (BGML) signed an agreement with the Benjamin Mkapa Foundation (BMF) that will facilitate the expansion of maternal and child health services as well HIV/AIDS intervention in Msalala District Council, Shinyanga Region.

The partnership agreement worth 200,000 US Dollars (about 400m/-) donated by the Acacia Mining Company through its Maendeleo Fund was a continuation of such collaboration and support that will see the implementation of phase II of BMF Fellows program in Msalala District Council...The interventions in these targeted facilities will directly benefit a population of 321,852 that are either residing around the Bulyanhulu mining site or directly interact with migrants from these mining sites.
