A U.N. conference on technology and sustainable development opened Monday in Beijing with U.N. Undersecretary General Nitin Desai saying scientific advances that aid in balancing ecology and development should be made available to all. Specifically citing nanotechnology, biotechnology and information technology, Desai called for new international mechanisms to help share technological breakthroughs.
