This is bigger than Mike Daisey

We were as surprised as anyone to learn that Daisey had fabricated part of the story about his personal experiences in China. You may be wondering how this affects the SumOfUs…campaign to improve working conditions in those factories. The most important thing to know is that Daisey is just one of literally dozens of sources who’ve investigated and reported on serious violations of workers’ rights at Apple suppliers…[T]he particular details of Daisey’s odyssey – which workers he did and didn’t meet – are basically beside the point…The important truths are and always have been: Apple workers are routinely forced to work illegally long, exhausting hours for little pay. Conditions in the factories are unsafe, militaristic and miserable. And off the backs of these overworked, underpaid and endangered workers, Apple is pocketing hundreds of dollars in pure profit from each and every gadget they produce.
