Tyson Settles Discrimination Lawsuit, Will Pay $871,000 [USA]

Tyson Foods...said Tuesday that it had settled a discrimination lawsuit filed by workers at the company's Ashland, Ala., poultry plant. The country's largest meat processing company said...that it will pay $871,000 collectively to 13 plaintiffs. The lawsuit was filed in 2005 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission... Among the claims: a maintenance shop restroom was locked and accessible to only a few white workers, and that a "whites only'' sign was briefly posted on the restroom door... According to the settlement, Tyson denies violating any laws and agrees to take more steps to prevent discrimination, harassment and retaliation at the Ashland plant.
