UK: Amazon condemned by driver for signing £50 million deal with TV star as he awaits unpaid wages, following successful court case

"Amazon driver forced to fight for unpaid wages as firm hands Fleabag star £50million", 30 September 2019

Workers fighting Amazon over poverty pay and missing wages have condemned the internet giant’s £50million deal with Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge...

...Theophilius Osemele won a case to get paid for work he did for Amazon but still hasn’t seen a penny... “...It’s not right that a company like Amazon offers a TV writer such big sums but those who are doing its work need to go to court to get what’s owed"...

...[he] worked for six weeks as a “self-employed” courier for a company who make deliveries for Amazon...Fast Despatch is one of hundreds of small courier firms who deliver goods on behalf of Amazon...

...After quitting, he claimed the firm refused to pay him any wages and he was forced to take them to...court for £800. The successful action saw him awarded £1100 but Theophilius says he’s spent the last six months chasing the company for the cash...

...An Amazon spokeswoman insisted Theophilius was not their employee and was hired by Fast Despatch. She said: “We are committed to ensuring that the people contracted by our independent delivery providers are fairly compensated..."...

...A Fast Despatch spokesperson said: "...We had no record of a failure to pay this individual due to an unknown error and we were not aware of the court case. As soon as we were advised, we made immediate payment and apologised for any inconvenience caused."...
