Familiares de colombianos asesinados a manos del grupo paramilitar Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) presentaron hoy una demanda civil contra la empresa estadunidense Chiquita Banana, acusada de estar involucrada con esas muertes. La demanda...involucra a 173 colombianos, abogados y promotores, quienes de ganar podrían recibir compensaciones por cientos de millones de dólares...De acuerdo con la demanda, las AUC habrían asesinado a personas que aparentemente interfirieron con los intereses financieros de Chiquita Banana, que pagó miles de dólares al grupo paramilitar por protección.

Families sue Chiquita over violence [USA]

Lawyers representing the relatives of 173 victims of violence in Colombia's banana-growing region filed suit [in US federal court] Thursday against Chiquita Brands International, demanding compensation for the company's funding of illegally armed groups believed responsible for the killings….The civil suit comes on the heels of Chiquita's February guilty plea to charges it made payments to ''specially designated global terrorists'' in a criminal case brought by the U.S. Justice Department….Chiquita denied the allegations in the suit…
