"Energy companies fight kids' climate change suit", 20 Jan 2016

A judge will allow trade groups representing major energy companies to join the fight against a lawsuit filed by a group of youths seeking a court order to reduce emissions contributing to climate change. The Register-Guard in Eugene reported that a U.S. magistrate judge granted defendant status last week to the National Association of Manufacturers, the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers and the American Petroleum Institute, which represent oil, coal and natural gas companies. The federal government also is fighting the suit. The plaintiffs, a group of 21 people between 8 and 19 years old, gained support from two large Catholic organizations on Friday. The government and trade groups have asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit. A hearing on those requests is scheduled for March 9.
