The Kuapa Kokoo community in Ghana has grown considerably since it began...Nicholas Adjei-Gyan explains how The Co-operative/ Fairtrade relationship has helped the community, which now consists of 1,200 societies comprising of about 45,000 farmers all over the cocoa growing regions. There is a range of training available including gender-empowerment programmes, sustainability education and financial planning and bonus schemes...[1000 farmers started this co-operative in the year 1993...The benefit that these farmers are getting is that at the end of the year, some of the fairtrade premiums are used to pay bonuses to the farmers...Every farmer gets a stipulated amount of money as part of the fairtrade premium contribution to their lives...The idea is to increase the income of the poor farmer and to enable him to...improve his condition of living...]
