Women’s forum demands moratorium on migrant workers [Indonesia]

A leading NGO on women’s rights, the Women’s Forum for Indonesia, has called for a moratorium on sending migrant workers to countries with whom Indonesia has yet to establish a workers protection accord. “The sending of migrant workers to other countries that have not signed a memorandum of understanding on migrant worker protection should be stopped, especially regarding female migrant workers,” said the queen of the Yogyakarta Sultanate, G. K. R. Hemas, a member of the forum and also deputy speaker at the Regional Representatives Council (DPD)...The government has to take full responsibility of the Ruyati incident, she said, referring to a housemaid who was recently executed by beheading by Saudi authorities after the Supreme Court there handed the death penalty to the Indonesian housemaid, who was found guilty of murdering her employer...last year.
