Chimita Alela is the leader of the Mwingi community, RDC. He was arrested on 13 February 2021, together with three members of the human rights group RIAO-RDC Christian Litikela, André Lisongi and José Litikela, during peaceful protest against the oil palm plantation company PHC. The march was organised by local communities to protest the arrival of a company delegation led by the new boss of PHC/Feronia/KKM and their investors. The company is accused by local communities to carry out massive violations of community rights and human rights. Local groups report that the arrest of the land rights defenders were violent and arbitrary. Mr. Alela is accused of having made serious statements against Feronia during the march and during interviews with journalists who were reporting on the march.
