On 18 March 2024, indigenous Lenca defenders, and President and member (respectively) of the Indigenous Lenca Council from Reitoca, Honduras, Wilmer Otoniel Alonzo Herrera and José Orlando Rodas García, were found guilty of the crime of "disturbance of a real right" and sentenced to nine months' imprisonment and reparation for moral and economic damages to the detriment of the company Sociedad Mercantil Promotora de Generación de Energía Limpia S.A (Progelsa). Their convictions are the consequence of a process of judicial harassment initiated against them in 2018 in retaliation for their work in defence of the Río Grande de Reitoca, also known as Río Petacón, against the activities of the energy company.
