On 15 August 2017, Honduran police allegedly used tanks, tear-gas and violence to displace the non-violent “Camp Dignity” encampment of community members in the Pajuiles community, who for months have been protesting the intrusion of the HIDROCEP corporation, owned by Jaison Hawit, into the Cordillera Nombre de Dios mountains to create a dam in the Mezapa River. Community members from the Movimiento Amplio por la Dignidad y la Justicia (Movement for Dignity and Justice) were allegedly beaten and gassed and five were arrested, including a woman who was six months pregnant. Those detained include Albertina López Melgar (who is six months pregnant), Wendy Yanery García, Kevin Javier Linares, Juan Bautista Santos and a minor. All were eventually released but face charges of "carrying out an illegal meeting" amongst others ,and must check in weekly to the police station pending trial.
