On 13 February 2018, human rights defender Moisés Jusayú was attacked by his nephew Luis Ramiro Jusayú in La Guajira, Colombia. Moisés was actively resisting the Wenpeshi wind farm project owned by companies Enel Green Power and Renovatio. He had received threats since 2016, including from his brother José León Jusayú. His community has been under threat since 2016 when the energy companies entered their ancestral Wayúu territory. He was well known for his work against renewable energy extractive projects in the region and defending indigenous territorial rights.
