Ten Guarani Kaiowá indigenous persons were arrested after taking part in a protest against the construction of a luxury condominium within the limits of the urban zone of the city of Dourados. The Military Police Shock Squad made the arrest in flagrante delicto. Less than 48 hours later, a house belonging to the indigenous family of one of the prisoners was set on fire. Women and children were sleeping there. The ten indigenous people arrested were accused of criminal association, damage to private property and threat, as well as bodily injury, possession of weapons and even trespassing. According to the Indigenist Missionary Council (Cimi), in a statement to the Civil Police they denied such practices and informed that they were in the place fighting for rights. The incident is part of a series of acts of violence against the Guarani Kaiowá. Fire, shots, deaths, threats and the presence of gunmen make up this story. The clash with ranchers and against real estate speculation has become more intense in the last decade. The area of the future residential development, called tekoha (territory) Yvu Vera by the indigenous people is claimed by them, as well as the place where the residence that turned into ashes was located, in the Aratikuty tekoha.
