Call for survey input: EU (DG JUST) study on directors’ duties and sustainable corporate governance, deadline 27 November

The European Commission – Directorate General for Justice and Consumers – entrusted a research consortium led by EY to carry out a study on directors’ duties and sustainable corporate governance.

The objective of the study is to assemble evidence of a possible trend towards short-term shareholder value maximisation on the part of EU companies, to research the main factors that contribute to such trend, and to analyse how a possible reform in corporate law and board duties could contribute to more accountability for sustainable value creation and the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change as well as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The study does not cover the topic of due diligence requirements through the supply chain; however, the two topics are complementary.

In the context of this study, the contractors have deployed web-surveys to collect evidence and views from a broad range of stakeholders. Your participation in the survey would help ensure a comprehensive and accurate assessment. The deadline for taking the survey is 27 November 2019.

The scope of the survey is limited to the following EU Member States and economic sectors and only answers from stakeholders in these MS and sectors will be taken into account:

Member States: Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.

Sectors: Garment, telecommunications, construction, power and utilities, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, food, car manufacture, transport, chemical industry.

Should you have any question regarding this consultation, please contact Mrs. Francesca Migliavacca of EY ([email protected]).
