El Corte Inglés' response to 'Who pays for the crisis' tracker allegations - March 2024

After an internal review from our end about the allegation, we found that El Corte Ingles had no role in factory closure.

Designtex Fashions Ltd. was one of our long trusted business partner since 2012 and never had any issues with them. According to the reference of all communications and records, we found that last shipment was done in April 30, 2023 and new order development was in progress from the beginning of April 2023. Some orders were already confirmed and new samples in progress, but, suddenly, factory informed our sourcing team on 7th June 2023 that they were not capable to develop sample as factory was closed. This also made us to move quickly with other factories as some of our confirmed orders were cancelled by them. From those communications we can see that we were working with them in a normal way without any previous information about this closure decision.

As it is required in the procedure with the Accord, as active founding members from the beginning (2013), we enlisted the factory as active from the beginning and we conducted a thourough follow-up of their progress and in the moment of the closure we can say they were in a 91% of remediation. At the moment we were informed about the closing, we informed Accord for delisting on 10th June 2023. We haven´t received any grievance in “Accord´s Grievance Mechanism” as they work with factories when they close and we also have communications between Accord and Designtex confirming that payments were done to all workers...
