Pakistan: Oxford University report reveals gig economy workers are denied of basic labour rights

A recent report by Oxford University’s Fairwork Foundation and the Centre for Labour Research, Pakistan reveals that gig-economy workers in Pakistan are subjected to poor working conditions. The report “Pakistan Ratings 2022: Labour Standards in the Platform Economy” ranked seven companies against fair work principles. The report found that the majority of the seven companies failed to meet the basic standards of fairness. Out of the seven, only two companies managed a score of 1/10, while the other five received 0/10.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Uber, Careem, Cheetay, Daraz and Gharpar to respond. None responded.
