Indigenous rights activist Gloria Campos Tumalon, chair of KATRIBUMMU, was arrested on March 19, 2020, reportedly on false charges. Tumalon was vocal in opposing attempts by five mining companies to operate in the Andap Valley complex, namely Benguet Corp., Abacus Coal Exploration and Development Corp., the Great Wall Mining and Power Corp., ASK Mining and Exploration Corp., and Coal Black Mining Corp. The arrests was justified on enforcing lockdown and COVID-19 measures.
