Ground water near Union Carbide factory is contaminated: IITR [India]

The ground water around the Union Carbide factory in Bhopal continues to be contaminated...28 years after the...disaster...the Supreme Court was told...Indian Institute of Toxicology Research..., which examined the ground water, submitted a report to the apex court saying the levels of lead, nitrate and nickel are more than permissible levels in many samples of water taken by it. "In nine of the 30 samples, nitrate levels exceeded its permissible Bureau of Indian Standard...limits for drinking water...The report, however, added there is no threat because of the ground water contamination as the requirement for drinking water in the area is being met through piped water supply.
