Japan: Govt. and cos. urged to earnestly acknowledge the end of mission statement by the UNWG and promptly take action

"【声明公開】「国連ビジネスと人権の作業部会訪日調査を踏まえて、日本政府及び企業に対して国連ビジネスと人権指導原則にもとづく責任ある行動を求める」", 8 August 2023

The UN Working group's end of mission statement comprehensively clarified that the current situation regarding business and human rights in Japan poses serious problems from the perspective of international standards. A number of important issues to be addressed were pointed out concerning the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs).

Human Rights Now (HRN), an international human rights NGO based in Tokyo, pays tribute to the UN Working Group, which visited sites throughout Japan and enthusiastically conducted research. We release the statement "Call for Responsible Action by the Japanese Government and Corporations in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights Following the Visit of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights to Japan.” The Japanese government and companies that have obligations or responsibilities under the UNGPs should take the end of mission statement seriously and immediately address the issues that have been re-emphasized.
