On April 5, 2021, representatives of the China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE) subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), in charge of the Rucalhue Hydroelectric Power Plant project in Chile, filed a criminal complaint for the crimes of violent usurpation, threats, and robbery against young people from the resistance movement for the defense of the Biobío River. This accusation was expanded on April 26, 2021, against one of them for the crime of kidnapping. These young people are part of a group who occupied the company's facilities where they intend to install a Hydroelectric Power Plant. The occupation sought to defend their territory against the installation of a project that aims to intervene in the ecosystems of the area, ending in an eviction by the Chilean police forces.
