Matalan's response to unpaid wages at Modiste CEPZ garment factory

No Matalan orders have been placed with Modiste CEPZ since 13TH August 24.

Our supplier Bettex (Grand Top 1 Trading) discontinued its association with Modiste CEPZ after the last shipment was made on 6/11/24 for another brand (Lizzie).

They informed us that after ending their association with Modiste CEPZ the factory was reluctant to share any information.

Bettex were aware of the production stoppage but there was no further investigation possible due to the lack of cooperation from the factory.

Matalan was not made aware of the sit in or any non-payment of wages at this point since there were no orders outstanding.

Bettex have informed us that the group owns three factories (Only Modiste CEPZ has ever been used for Matalan production) – Modiste (CEPZ) Ltd, Modiste (BD) and JMS Garments. Of them, JMS Garments has been laid off since June-25 and the other two factories are continuing with their operation. They have informed us that the workers are being paid a salary every month.
