Maxima Acuña is an indigenous woman and a human rights defender who has been fighting against the mining project Conga. She has been subjected to intimidation, threats, and violence. On 5 March 2019, she publicly denounced that more than 1000 of her trouts were found dead after being poisoned. Only the trouts in one of the ponds were killed even though that pond shares the same water source as her other pond. Local authorities have opened an investigation to find out if this is another harassment attempt against Maxima.
