For the past three years, Shell and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) have worked closely together to develop a human rights analysis system, which can be used to access Shell's human rights compliance in all its countries of operation. Shell...is faced with a number of human rights issues...The major challenge therefore is to develop a system that is systematic, easy to apply, and yet flexible enough to adequately address the variety of human rights issues that Shell encounters...This system is based on the Human Rights Compliance Assessment (HRCA)...Two field tests on Shell companies have been undertaken so far...in South Africa and...in Oman...
