Suzano's response on the impacts of its sustainable agenda

...The company maintains and protects approximately 1 million hectares of native vegetation, which corresponds to a little over 40% of its total area. These are conservation areas that represent different types of ecosystems, forming mosaic landscapes that intermingle with eucalyptus plantations and receive protection, restoration and management actions...

...The company does not convert natural habitats into eucalyptus plantations, a commitment established through its Zero Deforestation Policy, protecting the existing native remnants and seeking to increase biodiversity by promoting ecological restoration...

...Suzano recognizes the importance of its presence in the regions where it operates and prioritizes open and transparent dialogue in a friendly and balanced manner. Among the publics with whom Suzano maintains continuous and structured relationships are the traditional communities such as indigenous peoples, quilombolas, riverbank communities, artisanal fishermen and coconut breakers. Going deeper into the land area, we do not have any disputes with traditional communities. What do exist are demarcation processes underway at INCRA, opened by associations that represent some quilombola communities in the north of Espírito Santo State, and which overlap with certain areas belonging to the company, a matter that is still underway and on which there is no definitive decision...

...Suzano established "Commitments to renew life", expressed in various long term targets, and one of them, aligned with climate issues, was revised and anticipated in October 2021. The target was to capture 40 million tons of carbon from the atmosphere by 2030, but the company brought forward the achievement of the mark to 2025...

The Commitments to Life at Suzano, for a horizon up to 2030, also include other measures aligned with the ESG concept (Environmental, Social and Governance:

  • Offer 10 million tons of products from renewable sources.
  • Connect half a million priority areas for biodiversity conservation in the Cerrado, Atlantic Forest and Amazon.
  • Increase water availability in 100% of critical river basins.
  • Reduce by 15% the water captured in industrial operations.
  • Reduce by 70% the amount of solid industrial waste disposed of in own or third-party landfills, turning it into by-products.
  • Increase the export of renewable energy by 50%.
  • To lift 200,000 people out of poverty in the areas where the Company operates...
