Union attacks Cammell Laird for 'Victorian' attitudes [Gibraltar]

The TGWU has made a scathing attack on the Cammell Laird shipyard, accusing it of what seems to be 'slave contract' and cheap labour. "The company, with its attitude more reminiscent of the Victorian age, refuses to recognise the union," said a statement. The union claims that the company is constantly threatening employees. Two Gibraltarians who had undergone an apprenticeship at the yard, and are fully fledged crafsmen, were summarily dismissed because of a minor incident, without being given the opportunity to be defended by the union, it is claimed...The two workers have been replaced by Bulgarians.
