The Fundación Regional de Asesoría en Derechos Humanos (Inredh) of Ecuador denounced a ‘violation of constitutional rights and self-determination’ following the police eviction of the headquarters of the Federation of the Amazonian Indigenous Shuar people (Ficsh), opposed to mining projects in their territories.

The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) denounced that more than 200 police officers, without showing a court order to that effect, forcibly evicted the headquarters of the Shuar Federation in the city of Sucúa, in the province of Morona Santiago, in the southeast of the country. The police action, according to Conaie, took the form of the eviction of the Federation's president, Domingo Ankuash, who has opposed the operation of the Canadian mining company Lowell Solaris, which has settled in the El Cóndor mountain range, in the border area with Peru, to develop the Warintza mining project.
