Nazi memorabilia went under the hammer in Nelson [...] despite multiple calls for the items to be withdrawn and an overnight graffiti attack on the auction house.

The auction, which was run online as well as on the premises of Lipscombe Auction House, included some flags and badges featuring the Nazi swastika.

An online list of the 188-lot “Militaria, Model Ships & Police Unclaimed Auction” showed that hundreds of dollars were bid for the Nazi memorabilia, with one flag selling for $700.

About 20 people reportedly attended the auction. Some were residents who outlined their concerns, and said they were asked to leave after they spoke out.
