UAE: Talabat drivers follow Deliveroo drivers' footsteps in strikes for better pay as petrol prices soar; incl. co. comments
“To strike in the UAE things have to be desperate, so this is a sign of how difficult things have got for delivery drivers with recent fuel cost rises”James Lynch, FairSquare
Almost a week after the major Deliveroo migrant worker mass strike in the UAE in protest of working conditions and pay cuts, Talabat's drivers have also went on a strike as delivery services were disrupted on May 9th, 2022.
While Talabat insisted that there were no changes to pay, drivers cited insufficiency of current rates paid to drivers to cover work and living expenses with the recent increase in petrol prices in the Gulf state. Talabat's German parent company, Delivery Hero, said they are aware of this strike and are in contact with drivers to reach a settlement.
