UK: Cleaners outsourced by public bodies strike for better pay and working conditions
Cleaners at the Ministry of Justice and Kensington & Chelsea Council decided to strike as part of their fight for better terms and conditions of employment. The workers, employed by Amey PLC, OCS Group and HCA UK, are calling on the public bodies to take responsibility for the low wages paid to outsourced cleaning staff. The striking workers are asking for the £10.20 an hour London living wage and hope that negotiations will result in a fairer sick pay policy.
