"Almost 7 thousand information sources have been recognized as 'extremist' in Belarus", 6 June 2025

In Belarus, almost 7 thousand information resources have been recognized as "extremist", said the head of the Ministry of Information Marat Markov.

In total, the agency restricted the activities of 18 thousand resources. "Last year alone, more than 3.15 thousand resources were blocked. And in the first five months of 2025, we have already reached this figure," he said.

The Belarusian authorities also recognized independent media as "extremist".

In July 2021, security forces ransacked the office of Radio Liberty's Belarusian service. Several journalists were detained and later released on bail. On December 3, the social networks of Radio Liberty's Belarusian service were recognized as "extremist materials ," and on December 23, the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs recognized the publication's online resources as an "extremist group."
