BNP Paribas response to Evian letter outreach
Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited BNP Paribas to comment on a letter that emerged from the 2025 Franco-German business meeting in Evian, France. We asked the following two questions:
- Is it BNP Paribas' position to call for the full abolition of the CSDDD?
- If it is, has your company considered the human rights risks or impacts of taking this stance publicly, and subjected it to a human rights due diligence process? If so, what have been your company’s conclusions and any action plan?
BNP Paribas provided the following response:
BNP Paribas is not a signatory of this letter. We maintain the position that we have already expressed on several occasions: we believe it is important to preserve the ambition of the CSDDD and the CSRD, while also recognizing that a more pragmatic approach and simplification are essential for effective and efficient implementation.
In addition, please note that BNP Paribas already complies with the French law on duty of care and the BNP Paribas’ vigilance plan is published as part of the Group’s annual report.
