Court rules in favour of Hajrija Čobo in defamation lawsuit, 21 June 2024

On 17 June 2024, Kakanj Municipal Court dismissed the defamation charges against woman environmental rights defender Hajrija Čobo without waiting for the preliminary hearing to take place on 25 June 2024. The court based its verdict based on a waiver submitted by the plaintiff, Adriatic Metals BH d.o.o. on 3 June 2024. The Court cited Article 181, para (1) and (2) of the Law on Civil Procedure which stipulates that the court can render its judgement on the basis of the waiver, if the plaintiff waives its claim before the hearing without seeking the consent of the defendant.

On 11 January 2024, the woman human rights defender Hajrija Čobo submitted her defense to the court on a case of defamation lawsuit filed by the British mining company Adriatic Metals BH d.o.o. The company accuses the woman human rights defender of spreading false information about the company in the media and through her social media network, and demands compensation for the damage to the company’s reputation...
