Campaigners warn seasonal farm workers at risk of exploitation

In this video, Channel 4 News speaks to Julia Quecano Casimiro, a seasonal farmworker who alleges she experienced abusive conditions at Haygrove Farm in the UK.

The worker describes the labour rights violations she alleges she and her colleagues experienced at the farm. Channel 4 also interviews Julia’s colleagues at a meeting the night before their court hearing. The workers describe a range of alleged abuses, including poor living conditions and intimidation, described as "traumatic".

The video also describes barriers accessing to justice. It took “almost two years” for their cases to be heard using the Home Office’s mechanism for recognising victims of modern slavery, and their initial application was rejected.

Haygrove refutes the claims. It says it “takes great care to ensure fairness, equality and professionalism” in its recruitment and employment practices.
