Pakistan: Labour rights groups file OECD complaint against Amazon over due diligence in Pakistan garment supply chain
"Amazon faces OECD complaint on due diligence in Pakistan", 25 November 2025
...Amazon is under scrutiny following a formal complaint alleging it has failed to conduct proper due diligence on third-party marketplace seller supply chains, allowing garment worker rights abuses in factories in Pakistan.
The complaint has been filed with the UK National Contact Point (NCP) for the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises by Labour Behind the Label, in cooperation with Pakistan-based NGOs, Labour Education Foundation (LEF) and Pakistan Institute for Labour Education and Research (PILER).
It comes after investigators traced apparel sold by three UK-registered sellers — A2Z 4 Kids, Ice Cool Fashion and Chums — to factories in Pakistan where workers reported low wages, excessive and unpaid overtime, lack of contracts and payslips, and an absence of social security protections.
The complaint says these issues were in clear breach of both local labour laws and Amazon’s own supply chain standards...
Labour Behind the Label says Amazon relies on third party sellers signing contractual pledges against forced labour, without requiring full transparency or evidence of active supplier due diligence...
Labour Behind the Label is urging the online retailer to:
- ensure all workers producing goods for marketplace sellers receive at least the legal minimum wage, formal contracts, proper payslips and access to social security
- upgrade its due diligence requirements by making seller supply chains fully transparent and subject to regular risk mapping
- take a more active role in detecting risks and facilitating remedies for supply chain harms
An Amazon spokesperson said: “Providing safe, healthy and fair working conditions is a requirement of doing business with Amazon in every country where we operate.
“Selling partners who list products in our stores must comply with our supply chain standards, even when they exceed the requirements of applicable law. We take these allegations incredibly seriously and are currently investigating these claims.”
