"Chinalco workers halt operations and report nine cases of COVID-19" - May 7, 2020
For two weeks now, the Unified Union of Minera Chinalco Workers has been demanding transparency in information about workers with Covid-19. On April 23rd, the company Chinalco Peru, owned by Aluminum Corporation of China, in an internal communication warned that a worker from the Tuctu camp in Junin, tested positive for Covid-19. Four days later, the company entered into contradictions, issuing a press release stating that they had no cases of coronavirus. Yesterday, the straw that broke the camel's back was a new case, with the Union registering nine infected; this fact led 600 workers to stop operations [in protest].
