S. Korea: Gov't criticised over foreign caregiver pilot project

"The Ministry of Employment and Labor and Seoul Metropolitan Government have launched the 'Foreign Caregiver Pilot Project,' despite criticism from labor unions. The government announced it would begin accepting applications for the program on April 17, allowing foreign housekeepers hired by certified service providers to provide care services in homes. However, the unions, including the Korea Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), have raised concerns about the project's vague guidelines. They argue that the unclear scope of work for domestic workers, particularly regarding child care and 'secondary and light' services, could lead to exploitation and human rights violations."
