Sandra Miranda is a delegate of the land community of Atotonilco and an opponent of the Milpillas dam project. She has led a group of around 60 women who are resisting the construction companies and their machinery. Sandra Miranda has denounced police harassment and a smear campaign in the local media. The police have allegedly threatened Sandra Miranda with arrest and kept her under watch. Members of the community allege that the dam would bring an environmental disaster and that this project will mainly benefit mining and beer companies in the area.
