USA: Walmart dismisses migrant employees from Florida stores after Govt. revokes legal protections for several nationalities
"Walmart said to fire some workers after immigration ruling", 4 June 2025
Walmart has fired some workers from at least two stores in Florida after the U.S. Supreme Court ended legal protections for some immigrants, according to reports.
The court on May 30 upheld the Trump Administration’s request to revoke the temporary legal status of more than half a million immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who were allowed to enter the country legally during the Biden Administration. Under the so-called “humanitarian parole” program, the immigrants were granted permission to live and work in the U.S. for various reasons, including to escape from violent conditions in their home countries.
According to the reports, Walmart had told employees they would lose their jobs if they did not obtain new work authorizations. Bloomberg reported that the terminations were related to the I-9 forms that U.S. employers use to verify the employment authorization of workers.

The protected status of those who received humanitarian parole was originally granted for two years, and many of those people have likely applied for other protections, including asylum and permanent residency, according to reports.
In addition, some lower courts are still hearing other challenges to the legality of the Trump Administration’s efforts to end the humanitarian parole program.
