OrPower Twenty-Two Limited (OTTL) is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) developing a 35-megawatt (MW) geothermal power plant in Kenya's Menengai Caldera, near Nakuru. The project relies on steam extracted by the Geothermal Development Company (GDC). OTTL then converts this steam into electricity. This energy goes to the national grid.
OTTL is building a local substation. It links to the main Menengai substation via a short 500-meter line. The plant sells its electricity to the Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC). This helps lower overall electricity prices for local users.
OTTL is backed by $16.5 million in funding from the African Development Bank. The parent company is Kaishan Renewable Energy Ltd., a subsidiary of the Chinese firm Kaishan Group
