5 to pay penalty [Fiji]

…[A]t a workshop on child labour organised by the Fiji Trades Union Congress and the International Labour Organization, district labour officer Akuila Tuleca…highlighted five cases…of companies being issued fixed penalty notices, and a construction company being prosecuted for employing children as labourers…"We are taking this issue very seriously," he said.."For a company…they could face a fine not exceeding $50,000.”…Mr Tuleca said it was important for employers and trade unions to take child labour seriously to ensure children are given the opportunity to receive an education in an effort to stop the cycle of poverty for low income-earning families.
