Australia: Environmental groups condemn approval of South32 bauxite mine
Environmental groups in Western Australia say they are devastated by the federal government’s approval of South32’s expansion of the Worsley Alumina bauxite mine in the Northern Jarrah Forest. Activists accuse the government of betraying environmental protections, with the Conservation Council of WA calling the decision a serious failure of responsibility. South32 argues the expansion will deliver jobs and economic stability for the region.
South32 responded to Business and Human Rights Centre's invitation to comment on the allegation.
