Bangladesh: Garment workers stage protest over layoffs, reportedly due to lack of orders

At 10 am on Thursday, the workers of the Olympic Fashion Limited factory started protesting in Rajendrapur BK Bari area of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
Traffic on the highway was blocked for about an hour from 10:30 am. Later it becomes normal. Workers are still standing in front of the factory.
The agitating workers told The Daily Star that the factory owner said that since there was no work order from June 16 to July 30, [it] announced the lay-off according to Section 12 of the Labor Act 2006. Later, the lay-off was extended from July 31 to August 14.
'Now we can no longer accept. We protested on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in front of the factory demanding the lifting of layoffs.
