Cardano responds regarding Palantir investments

On 1 May 2026, the Business and Human Rights Centre invited Cardano to respond to concerns that a company it is investing in, Palantir, is linked to various allegations of facilitating "serious human rights violations". Reportedly, Palantir is accused of facilitating these violations through its contracts with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) and the Israeli army in the Palestinian territories, among other concerns, with Amnesty International accusing the company of "failing to comply with international standards". Palantir has responded to similar allegations, which can be found on its BHRC company page.

As stated in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights (UNGPs), investors have a responsibility to use their leverage to ensure that those with whom they have business relationships, including portfolio companies, respect human rights. Cardano responded, stating:

"Cardano has adopted a strict sustainable investment policy grounded in international standards, including the OECD Guidelines and UN Global Compact Principles. Under the policy, Cardano periodically revaluates investments as new information or regulatory developments arise. Following a recent review under our Sustainable Investment Framework, certain investments have been reclassified and will no longer be eligible for some strategies and mandates, reflecting our ongoing assessment of issuers against our sustainability criteria. It was recently reported that "CARDANO RISK MANAGEMENT B.V. removed 5,888,014 [Palantir] shares (-89.4%) from their portfolio in Q1 2026" amounting to an estimated divestment of over US$840 million. This has been cited among the "the largest recent moves" by institutional investors concerning Palantir holdings within the first quarter of 2026.
