CITIC (Myanmar)'s response

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited CITIC to respond to an article concerning that Myanmar military regime will confiscate local farmers' land in the Kyaukphyu special economic zone (SEZ) without compensation. The CITIC GROUP (MYANMAR) CO.LTD. responded on 19th November 2021:

As stipulated in the Request for Proposal for Kyaukphyu SEZ issued by Myanmar Government in September, 2014, and agreements signed on Kyaukphyu SEZ Project in January,2020, Myanmar Government is fully responsible for land acquisition and local inhabitants’ resettlement of Kyaukphyu SEZ. We believe that the Myanmar Government will fulfill such responsibilities in open and transparent manners and will reach fair and reasonable consensuses with the local inhabitants on the issues of compensations for land acquisition and resettlements.
