Co-op donates Sh10m to First Lady campaign [Kenya]

Co-operative Bank of Kenya has become the first company to donate to First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s campaign to reduce preventable maternal and child deaths. The bank donated Sh10 million to the Beyond Zero health campaign that seeks to create awareness and raise funds to improve maternal and child healthcare. In Kenya, 360 women out of every 1,000 die due to child birth-related complications compared to less than 10 in the developed world and 60 in Mauritius, according to the World Bank. The programme is a partnership between the government, civil societies, development partners and private sector. “Our contribution will go towards the purchase of mobile clinics that will go a long towards the provision of medical services at the grassroots, where Kenyans need it most,” Co-op Bank’s chief executive Gideon Muriuki said during the presentation of the donation to Mrs Kenyatta at State House.
