Indonesia: Govt. halt mining activities due to fast flood from sewer plan failure, incl. co. non-response

On 20 August 2025, fast flood disaster occured in Molino village, East Petasia Sub-district, North Morowali. The flood also brought other materials such as mud and wood logs and struck residential areas and swamped the Trans Sulawesi access. The water overflow allegedly originates from the damaged sewer plant located in PT Bumanik, and failed to content the heavy rain.

Central Sulawesi's governor Anwar Hafid ordered a temporary halt to PT Bumanik's mining activity until the company take responsibility for any negative impacts towards the local communities.

The Business & Human Rights Centre invited PT Bukit Makmur Istindo Nikeltama (Bumanik) to respond. PT Bukit Makmur Istindo Nikeltama (Bumanik) did not respond.
