LafargeHolcim's response regarding allegations of labour abuses in Jordan

We thank you for reaching out and giving us the opportunity to respond to the concerns related to LafargeHolcim’s subsidiary Lafarge Cement Jordan.

LafargeHolcim takes every stakeholder's feedback extremely seriously.

Everywhere around the world, LafargeHolcim operates in line with local law and global international labor standards. We can confirm that our business in Jordan operates accordingly.

It is important to understand the challenging context Lafarge Cement Jordan is operating in: Since last year, Lafarge Cement Jordan is under insolvency procedure with the effect that all decisions (including dismissals) are subject to the supervision of the insolvency agent as well as to court approvals. In addition, the Jordanian government applied certain COVID-19 related measures to all sectors in Jordan; accordingly, temporary adjustments to employee wages were aligned with those orders implemented by the Government during the Covid 19 crisis. The workers syndicate committee is always consulted in all decisions and there is continued and regular dialogue.

Lafarge Cement Jordan continues to provide health insurance benefits to eligible beneficiaries in line with the country's health insurance system. Lafarge Cement Jordan continues to pay all extra fees related to social security for positions classified as “hazardous professions,” which are based on job profiles and are subject to Social Security Corporation approval. In view of the current insolvency process, salary increases and / or promotions are not viable.

Across all our operations we ensure adequate working conditions as well as a safe and inclusive environment for all, in compliance with local law and our global code of conduct.

As a responsible company, we are committed to making a positive difference for people and communities wherever we operate. While we are a global business, we operate very locally in each of our 75 markets. Thus, employing local people and establishing good and open relationships with our communities are at the core of our business. As we share in our annual report, this includes a globally applicable business code of conduct, a strong system to check compliance with local laws and international regulations, a thorough human rights due diligence methodology including impact assessments and mitigation action, the implementation of sustainable procurement, regular engagement with stakeholders, as well as an integrity line that is open and available in 36 different languages for our employees, communities and other stakeholder to raise any concerns.

For transparency purposes, we have published these policies and processes on our website: https://www.lafargeholcim.com/additional-esg-resources
